NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

Course Description
A pistol, or handgun, is a firearm designed to be fired while being held in one hand. While such firearms are small and compact they can be the hardest to learn. This course covers all the basics from safety, to operations, to marksmanship. Included in this course are: The NRA's The Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook; Intensive lessons in firearms safety; Education in various types of pistols; Fundamentals of pistol marksmanship; Various pistol firing positions; Firing Range practical exercises; Cleaning and Storage of firearms; Summary of pistol sports and activities.

Course Duration
The basic pistol course can be completed in 10 hours: either one full day or two half-days/evenings.

Course Goals
To teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and using a handgun safely

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course and the material is accessible for appropriately supervised mature children.

Basic Pistol Certificate image

Course Completion
After successfully completing all lessons, firing a qualified group, and passing a written exam, students will receive an "NRA Basic Pistol" certification.
